The Jade Buddha of Universal Peace

We had a chance to see the Jade Buddha of Universal Peace which is touring around the world for two years when it was here in Miami this week. The Buddha started its tour in Vietnam in March 2009, continued on to Australia before coming to North America, and from here will go on to Germany, England and France before returning to its home in Asia.

“The purpose of exhibiting the Jade Buddha around the world is for everyone, irrespective of their religion, to take a moment to reflect upon peace, peace for the world, peace in personal relationships, peace for families and friends, peace at work, and most importantly peace in one’s own heart and mind” said Khanya Moolsiri, the Asian American community leader.

The Buddha was hosted at the Wat Buddharangsi, a Buddhist temple in Homestead, Florida.

The 7 foot Jade Buddha, hand carved from a single 18 ton Jade stone, is the largest Jade Buddha in the world, a really magnificent piece, with a really magnificent message to spread around the world.

There were other ceremonies going on, like the Snow Lion Dance for World Peace, chanting prayers for World Peace, etc. and traditional Tibetan painting demonstrations in the main temple.
